Melissa – From Beauty to Healing

Melissa is the visionary behind Westchester Hairstylist, where she spent years transforming brides and helping clients see their inner and outer beauty. Since the age of 16, she used her artistry to uplift others, knowing that confidence begins with self-perception.

From a young age, Melissa knew she had an intuition and could feel and sense things that most people around her couldn’t. This heightened sensitivity to energy would later guide her on her healing journey. Early in her career, while working in one of her first salons, Melissa was introduced to Reiki—a moment that felt like a deep remembering. It transported her back to childhood, when she would spend entire days in nature, collecting rocks and breaking them open, fascinated by the energy and beauty hidden within. This love for discovery and transformation would later shape her path in unexpected ways.

Having been diagnosed with Lyme disease as a child, it was especially surprising when Melissa was diagnosed again in 2011, this time with a completely different infection, according to her doctor. The toll this took on her body over the next 11 years pushed her to explore a new direction. In 2011, she did a deep dive into “alternative” healing when conventional treatments were not providing relief and her symptoms were worsening.

With the support of her husband Jason, who also lives with autoimmune challenges and is an expert in holistic fitness and nutrition, Melissa explored every possible avenue for healing. Together, they delved into “alternative” therapies and approaches within the autoimmune community, where many individuals are often left without solutions from conventional medicine. Their relentless pursuit of healing options uncovered new possibilities and empowered them to take control of their health. Through this journey, they learned that the body, soul, and spirit are all interconnected, and that exercise, food, spiritual practices, and stress management are all essential components of overall well-being.

In 2019, due to Melissa’s compromised health, her body and spirit would not let her continue her busy stress filled business of beauty healing. She began to feel the need for a deeper change. By that year, she knew she wanted to continue healing others, but in a way that also allowed her to heal herself. She began her studies in metaphysical science, worked toward her master’s degree, and became a certified master Reiki healer and energy medicine practitioner, using multiple modalities.

By 2020, the signs were undeniable: it was time to embrace this new path fully. She traded in her curling iron—once her "magic wand"—for the power of her own hands, stepping into her role as a healer. Along the way, she realized that much of her past work in hairstyling had always been about healing people from the inside out, creating a seamless bridge between her former passion and her current practice.

Melissa's business, Yellow Alchemy, embodies her transformation from beauty artistry to energy healing. In alchemy, a chemist seeks to transform materials into something more valuable, a concept that directly connects to the beauty industry, where the goal is to transform appearances and boost self-esteem. Alchemy also plays a vital role in energy healing, as it involves the transformation of energies to bring balance and healing. Yellow Alchemy is the result of Melissa’s transition beyond the physical realm of beauty healing into the metaphysical realm of energy healing. 

Today, Melissa and Jason reside in Florida with their two dogs, continuing their personal health journeys while exploring holistic solutions and seeking answers to support others in overcoming limitations. Through their work, they strive to empower individuals to embrace healing, enhance their well-being, and live happier, more fulfilling lives, regardless of the challenges they face.
